Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is the most common neurodevelopmental disorder of childhood and children with ADHD can exhibit disruptive behavior that impacts not only their learning but there social relations with others as well. These behaviors may also foster more negative teacher-student interactions in the classroom and parent-child interactions in the home. While there are a number of behavioral interventions that have been shown to be effective in treating the symptoms of ADHD, they require the active participation of the teacher in the school and the parent in the home. In this workshop, information will be offered about the disorder, including its characteristics, associated problems, and effective interventions will be presented that could be utilized in work with parents and educators. Finally, clinical strategies towards dealing with some of the secondary difficulties often experienced by students with ADHD (depression, low frustration tolerance) will be offered.
