Description

Many clients come to therapy because they are suffering in an unfulfilling relationship. Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy was one of the first therapeutic approaches applied in couples therapy. This workshop will help clinicians identify the emotional and behavioral blocks to achieving successful relationships. The cognitive variables that often lead to relationship disturbance will be highlighted and strategies to overcome them will be addressed. There will be a discussion of some of the common challenges for clinicians working with couples, including how to structure the therapy session, balancing and addressing the needs of both partners, and modeling more effective communication styles. The importance of teaching clients Unconditional Other Acceptance of their partner will be addressed.




Learning Objectives

Participants will:

Describe various emotional and behavioral blocks to achieving successful relationships.

Explain how to structure a couples therapy session, balance and address the needs of both partners, and model more effective communication styles.

Utilize cognitive restructuring strategies to address relationship disturbance.



NOTE: Full refunds are granted for cancellations received at least 14 days prior to workshop. A $25 fee applies for one day workshops ($10 fee for half day) applies to cancellations received 7 – 13 days prior to the workshop, except for grad students. No refunds thereafter.
