Welcome
to the Albert Ellis Institute (AEI),
a world-renowned psychotherapy institute committed
to advancing emotional well-being through the study
and application of effective, short-term therapy with
long-term results.
AEI conducts research and continuing education for
mental health professionals, self-help workshops for
the public, and affordable psychotherapy for adults,
couples, children, families and groups.
AEI's therapeutic approach is based on rational
emotive behavior therapy (REBT), the pioneering form of cognitive
behavior therapy. REBT is an action-oriented psychotherapy
that teaches individuals to examine their own thoughts, beliefs
and actions and replace those that are self-defeating with
more life-enhancing alternatives.
REBT was developed in 1955 by Albert Ellis, Ph.D.,
who founded AEI in 1959. Dr. Ellis is widely recognized
as one of the most influential psychologists of all
time. Dr. Ellis served as President Emeritus
of AEI, which is located in New York City.
AEI is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization chartered
by the Regents of the University of the State of New
York.
